  • Earning Point Assessment :

Earnings must be made up of 12 consecutive months and must fall within the 15 months before your application.

You can claim points for a 12-month period outside of the 15-month period only in very limited circumstances. These are if you have been away from the workplace for a time during the last 12 months because of:

    • full-time study; or
    • a period of maternity or adoption-related absence.

You do not have to be in continuous employment during the 12-month period being assessed, so:

    • you can claim for a period of earnings less than 12 months; and
    • earnings do not have to be from a single employer and can be from full-time, part-time, temporary or short-term work.

If you claim for a period that is more than the 12 months, UK Home office will assess the most recent period of 12 months for which you have sent evidence.

    UK Experience : ( Maximum 5 Points )

you have successfully scored points under previous earnings and those earnings were made in the United Kingdom.

    5 Points
you have been in full-time study in the United Kingdom for at least one full academic year, and have been awarded a qualification at bachelor's degree level or above. The qualification should have been awarded within the last five years.
    5 Points

    Maintenance (funds) can include:

    • cash savings in your account that have been in your account for at least three months before your application;
    • cash savings in a joint account that have been in your joint account for at least three months before your application;
    • cash savings in a account overseas (They convert the amount to pounds sterling using the rate which appears on the OANDA website, and the date on your bank statement), that have been in your account for at least three months before your application.
    • Fixed Deposite are valid for Maintenance fund.

If you do not score a minimum of 75 points for your attributes and 10 points for English language and 10 points for available maintenance (funds), your application will be refused.

    Important!

To qualify for Tier 1 (General) of the Points Based System you must be able to demonstrate that you have funds to support yourself and any dependants. For the main applicant this is £2,800 with a further £1,600 needed for each dependant accompanying you or planning to join you within 12 months of your arrival in the UK.  These amounts must be held in your personal bank account for a minimum period of 3 months for which you must show bank statements/other evidence immediately preceding and dated no more than 7 days prior to the date you submit your application. The balance should not fall below the required minimum at any time during the 3 month period.

Use the points based calculator to calculate how many points you have and whether you are eligible to work in the United Kingdom as a highly skilled worker under the points-based system.

      Hi Dev,

I am interested for HSMP. I will be greatful to you for ever if you kindly answer my below questions.

I have checked in UKBA point calculator i am getting 75 points (3 Yrs Full Time M.SC.Tech in Applied Geophysics =35 points and Earning CTC 6.21 lacs pa = 40 points ). Also, i am having working exp at UK for 7 months (although i think this won’t be of any help in this matter).

But as far as required documents are concerned, i have the following problem / confusion:

      1) My Indian Salary for last 12 mnths credited into 2 different bank accounts. Also, In my bank statement my employer name is not mentioned. But offcourse, the amount mentioned in salary slip and bank statement are same. So, what will be the best way of showing the bank statement.

      2) If i show the appointment letter of my current employer (working for last 5+ yrs with) then don’t i need to get an experienc letter? Do i need to show offer letter from previous employers in that case?

      3) I have done my bachelor and masters in english and my institute names for both bachelor and masters are there in PBS. Is it must to show a certificate for english proficiency? If yes, Should the cretificate be from institute of Masters or Bachelor degree?

      4) Are stamped pay slips are must (even on showing the bank statement and tax return document)?

      5) My CTC is 6.21 lacs per annum (i.e., before tax, with pf etc) but this figure in only there in online increment letter. Do i need to produce that? Also, is that must to get attested by employer?

      Thanks in advance,
      Amit

I’m planning to apply for HSMP visa by this month end. I got some doubt regarding the proofs need to be submitted.

      1. This year I was submitted my income tax return(ITR1) though online. I got only email acknowledge as proof.
      – my doubt is : (a). Acknowledgment copy has no signature and seal, this doc is acceptable ?. If not what document I need to submit.
(b). Nowadays Income tax dep stopped issuing SARAL form proof for the tax payer. So ITR 1 form is enough for this case ?

      2. Invitation letter from my friend who is staying in UK (accommodation ) is must for the visa application ?

Waiting for your comments and suggestion…….

      - Sridhar

    7. Roger says:

      Hi Dev

As per the Border & Immigration Agency points calculator I qualify for the following points:-

      1) Attributes – 90 points
      2) English Language – 10 points

However I have a query regarding Maintenance funds. I plan to add my name as the second name in my wife’s Fixed Deposit account which have the requisite funds (more than £ 4,400 required for a joint application with 1 dependent). If the Bank issues a letter / certificate giving both names and the funds for the last 3 months, would there be any problems for qualifying. I would be putting a joint application wherein I would be the main applicant and my wife would be the dependent.

      Please advise.

      Thanks Dev

      Hi,
First of all kudos to dev, for starting such a wonderful forum. Guys, I am from hyderabad and would
be applying soon. If there is anyone in hyderabad(infact anywhere in india) who wants to coordinate,
      please contact me at:
      hi_its_himanshu@yahoo.com.

I went to an overseas immigration consultant, he said he would be charging Rs 45000/- for the service.
He is also promising a Job Search Service, through which he would help me find a job in UK. Honestly
speaking I am really not confident that he would help me much once he has taken all the fees.

I read through Dev’s suggestion, that the application process is not very difficult, and one can apply
himself/herself too. On one hand I want to apply myself, on the other hand I am a bit hesitant that I might
end up making a stupid mistake and get my Visa rejected.I am thinking of bargaining with the consultant, and would try to convince him for much less. Any idea, how much do consultants normally charge nowadays ? Has any of you talked/bargained with these people ?

what are the normal pitfalls/traps that these people trap you into ? Should I pay him partial fees first, and then
pay him rest of the fees, based on the quality of job search service he provides ?
Anybody who has any experience, please share.

      Himanshu

    13. Himanshu says:

      Hi Dev,
I have tried to post on this forum atleast thrice, but I have never been successful. Every time it says that my comment is awaiting moderation, then afterwards
my comment is simply deleted and not visible on the forum. Am I violating any rules of the forum(furnishing some personal information, or talking about overseas consultants etc ?) or is my post just too big to be submitted ? In any case, please let me know the reason. If you want me to contact you personally, please
let me know your email-id, and I would get in touch with you personally, and would not post my queries in public(on the forum).

I am saying this, just because I cannot understand the reason, why my posts are rejected. Please take it positively, and let me know if there is some technical glitch somewhere.

      Thanks,
      Himanshu

Calling all “successful applicants” and the Guru himself – our very own Dev Bhaai..

I want to show mix of bank funds ( from aug,sept,oct,2009) and FDs but now :

      My issue is that :

On 1st of the Aug-month – it was 1.31 lacs INR, but on the 3rd day it became 1.20 lacs INR, so now my question is- is this an issue ? or is it that they are bothered abt the last standing balance at the end of the month. Which balance do they look at ? I read on the blog that it should not go down certain limit we specify( like 1.20 here)on any day it; stayed above 1.20 after that day though.

Although, the amount has not gone below 1.21 INR lacs till date, its much above it now.

      2. For FD’s my question is :

      – for them i need a certificate from bank about their age n liquidation value.
and also the original FDs attached with it.

So when I use the FDs – should i go by the maturity amount or the deposit amount when using them as maintenance funds part ?

Example: If I use 1.21 cash balance and then FDs deposit value of 1.5 lacs but maturity amount of lets say 1.65 lacs.

To total as 2800 pounds maintenance funds would it be 1.21 + 1.50 (or 1.65) lacs INR. Also, can it be over 2800 pounds ?(it should not be less, right?)

      3. I applied earlier for a different visa for UK but it was not granted and when i double checked, the passport has some entry ( UK XXXXXX NEW DELHI)done by the VFS people when I submitted my papers through them BUT it does not carry any stamp of rejection.

Now the form has a field that says to mention if one applied for a visa earlier as well(which i did apply) and the reasons if it was not granted. Should I fill in the details for it or skip it? I am scared that – if i do mention it ; they might become biased and if I dont n they check the entry done by VFS ppl might create an issue for me.

      4. I have also sat for IELTS exam; would that help ? since I read from the blog now that if the degree is listed then no english cert. etc is required.
      5. For my qualification(masters) is it that i need to attach only degree certificate or marks sheets from all years from 10th class till masters and also the degree with it.
Thank you again for this blog and all your efforts, Dev.

      Oops missed this one :

Also you say the previous earnings is CTC, but here my issue is that in the past few years its has been changing by increments. It has varied from say 2.6 lacs INR to 3.80 INR now.

But if we go by the totals for previous months period of 12 months, the total comes to around lets say 3.5 lacs INR; which gives me 4375 pounds * conversion factor of 5.3 = 23187 pounds putting me into the 23000 pounds+ bracket n thus 20 points for earnings ( Am i correct? )

Now my question here is should I go by this total of 12 months or the CTC and claim points as per that. All letters of appointment, increments are available with me and is there a need to attach them as well ? does it help?

      Please suggest. Thank you everyone.

      Hey All,

I am so glad I found this website. I have one simple query regarding qualification for HSMP. I know that master degree has been mandatory now. My question would be, is Executive MBA (EMBA, 1 Year, distance, approved by UGC and DEC) considered as a mater degree for HSMP. I have verified in the list, and the university is valid and so is 1 year MBA. But I am not sure of the “EMBA” degree. Can some one please help me out here.

      Thanks in advance.

Generally how companies are treating tier-1 visa holders(Particularly Indians.)..? Is there any biased approach shown by the companies during interview selection..? Also is there any situation that similiar to australia where asians are targetted..?.

      Thanks & Regards

      Hi Dev,
My highest qualification (2 yr Full time PGDBM from Symbiosis, Pune) has been compared by NARIC equivalent to BRITISH POSTGRADUATE Diploma Standard. I would like to know if this qualifies for 35 points of Masters for tier 1 General Visa?

      Hi Dev,

      Hi All,

My Wife has a Tier 1 general Migrant Visa and is currently employed in the UK.

I am in the UK currently but on a business visa on project for my company in India.

A few questions that I needed answers to for me to apply my dependent visa:

      1. For accommodation proof: As I am usually on business visa, my company provides me with accommodation. So I don’t have a flat on rent. Will hotel booking work for me for accommodation proof. I would not want to rent a flat and show that accommodation.

      2. I have a job with an Indian company who pays me salary in India and accommodation and daily allowance in UK (when I am in the UK working for the UK parent). We have limited knowledge on how this will work if I go to UK on a dependent visa. Can anybody help here. My concerns are i. can I still work for my Indian company and earn Indian salary when I am a dependent in UK. ii. Will my company have any problem with paying me daily allowance. (they are ready to, but we dont understand the tax implication).

      Please help me..

      Thanks,
      Vallabh.

      Hi Dev,
Please summarize the current IT JOBS’ situation (OCT 2009) in UK and please advice us if the next 6 months would be better option to enter UK for HSMP job search. I am very much confused about the news of deepening UK RECESSION. Most of us who are trying for HSMP has the same dilemma. Please suggest us a way as you are the best person t contact regarding this.
