  • Earning Point Assessment :

Earnings must be made up of 12 consecutive months and must fall within the 15 months before your application.

You can claim points for a 12-month period outside of the 15-month period only in very limited circumstances. These are if you have been away from the workplace for a time during the last 12 months because of:

    • full-time study; or
    • a period of maternity or adoption-related absence.

You do not have to be in continuous employment during the 12-month period being assessed, so:

    • you can claim for a period of earnings less than 12 months; and
    • earnings do not have to be from a single employer and can be from full-time, part-time, temporary or short-term work.

If you claim for a period that is more than the 12 months, UK Home office will assess the most recent period of 12 months for which you have sent evidence.

    UK Experience : ( Maximum 5 Points )

you have successfully scored points under previous earnings and those earnings were made in the United Kingdom.

    5 Points
you have been in full-time study in the United Kingdom for at least one full academic year, and have been awarded a qualification at bachelor's degree level or above. The qualification should have been awarded within the last five years.
    5 Points

    Maintenance (funds) can include:

    • cash savings in your account that have been in your account for at least three months before your application;
    • cash savings in a joint account that have been in your joint account for at least three months before your application;
    • cash savings in a account overseas (They convert the amount to pounds sterling using the rate which appears on the OANDA website, and the date on your bank statement), that have been in your account for at least three months before your application.
    • Fixed Deposite are valid for Maintenance fund.

If you do not score a minimum of 75 points for your attributes and 10 points for English language and 10 points for available maintenance (funds), your application will be refused.

    Important!

To qualify for Tier 1 (General) of the Points Based System you must be able to demonstrate that you have funds to support yourself and any dependants. For the main applicant this is £2,800 with a further £1,600 needed for each dependant accompanying you or planning to join you within 12 months of your arrival in the UK.  These amounts must be held in your personal bank account for a minimum period of 3 months for which you must show bank statements/other evidence immediately preceding and dated no more than 7 days prior to the date you submit your application. The balance should not fall below the required minimum at any time during the 3 month period.

Use the points based calculator to calculate how many points you have and whether you are eligible to work in the United Kingdom as a highly skilled worker under the points-based system.

    4. Sridhar says:

      Hi Dev,

I got a small problem. I am applying Tier 1 dependant for my wife.I am in UK from last 5 months.
I am currently staying in a house share. So for accomodation, I took a letter from the house share owner saying that he is allright to accommodate me and my dependant. Along with that I took his electricity bill. But when my wife went to apply, the VFS people told her that we need Tenancy agreement. My house share owner is NOT ready to share the tenancy agreement. In this situation what options do I have?
Can I book a hotel for 10 days and show that as a accommodation proof. Meaning that I would look out for a suitable accommodation once the dependant is here. What’s you suggestion.

Thank you very much for all the guidance you have been offering everyone.

      Thanks,
      Sridhar

    5. admin says:

      Hi Sridhar,

Owner will not share tenancy agreement.Welcome letter or accommodation letter should be fine.Ask owner to give you copy of tenancy agreement and attach it will your welcome/accommodation letter.

I did so for my wife and i had no problem.Sometimes you may face issue with VFS because they are foolish and they themselves doesn’t know the rules and how things works.

Force VFS to accept the letter with copy of tenancy agreement and force owner to provide copy of tenancy agreement.

I don’t know what will happen if you provide hotel accommodation.

      Regards,
      Dev

    6. Sridhar says:

      Hi Dev,

I tried getting a copy of Tenancy Agreement from my house owner. He is not ready to give. So we are proceeding with the following documents for accommodation proof.
1.Invitation letter from my house owner
      2.Utility bill

Do you think this will be sufficient or will it cause any problems with the VISA.

      Thanks,
      Sridhar

    25. Anil says:

      Hi Ramesh.

      Congrajulations on getting VISA stamped.

You received your Passport with VISA on 24/09/2009, but your VISA starts from 01/12/2009. So even if you want to enter into UK before 01/12/2009 – I think Immigration people will not allow you to enter into UK. Hence I feel that the 3months period that you asked would start from 01/12/2009 only.

I think your VISA start date has been given so long from your application date becasue you might have filled in your application “Tenative date of travel” as on or after Jan-2010 – Is it so?

      Any comments Dev.

      Regards
      Anil

    29. Rick says:

      Hi Dev,

I have a question about the eligibility of my case. I was working with a MNC from Apr 2008 to Apr 2009 until I was laid off. Now I have been working with another MNC since Aug 2009. So If I am plan to apply this month(OCT) for HSW 1 – general then my salary qualifying period (12 consecutive months in the last 15 months ) will be July 2009 – Apr 2009 , a total of 10 months.

      Mu points earned will be Age – 20 , Qual – 35 , sal – 35 ( for 10 month sal )

      1. Now I am aware that we can claim points for salary earned in less than 12 months as well, BUT — I was wondering if my case will be looked upon in DOUBT by the visa officer…??

      2. Also my Masters is a correpondence course in IT, please let me know if that is eligible

      Thanks
      Rick

    30. Roger says:

      Hi

As per the Border & Immigration Agency points calculator I qualify for the following points:-

      1) Attributes – 90 points
      2) English Language – 10 points

However I have a query regarding Maintenance funds. I plan to add my name as the second name in my wife’s Fixed Deposit account which have the requisite funds (more than £ 4,400 required for a joint application with 1 dependent). If the Bank issues a letter / certificate giving both names and the funds for the last 3 months, would there be any problems for qualifying. I would be putting a joint application wherein I would be the main applicant and my wife would be the dependent.

      Please advise.

      Thanks

I came to UK on Tier 1 Visa. working with an IT Company from past 3 months. Recently myself and my freind took a 2 double bedroom flat. In the tenenacy agreement both our names are there. Now I am planning to apply Tier1 Dependant Visa for my Wife and daughter (11 Months Old). Can i show this Tenancy agreement as a proof of accomodation?
