Earning Point Assessment :
Earnings must be made up of 12 consecutive months and must fall within the 15 months before your application.
You can claim points for a 12-month period outside of the 15-month period only in very limited circumstances. These are if you have been away from the workplace for a time during the last 12 months because of:
- full-time study; or
- a period of maternity or adoption-related absence.
You do not have to be in continuous employment during the 12-month period being assessed, so:
- you can claim for a period of earnings less than 12 months; and
- earnings do not have to be from a single employer and can be from full-time, part-time, temporary or short-term work.
If you claim for a period that is more than the 12 months, UK Home office will assess the most recent period of 12 months for which you have sent evidence.
UK Experience : ( Maximum 5 Points )
you have successfully scored points under previous earnings and those earnings were made in the United Kingdom.
Maintenance (funds) can include:
-
cash savings in your account that have been in your account for at least three months before your application;
-
cash savings in a joint account that have been in your joint account for at least three months before your application;
-
cash savings in a account overseas (They convert the amount to pounds sterling using the rate which appears on the OANDA website, and the date on your bank statement), that have been in your account for at least three months before your application.
-
Fixed Deposite are valid for Maintenance fund.
If you do not score a minimum of 75 points for your attributes and 10 points for English language and 10 points for available maintenance (funds), your application will be refused.
Important!
To qualify for Tier 1 (General) of the Points Based System you must be able to demonstrate that you have funds to support yourself and any dependants. For the main applicant this is £2,800 with a further £1,600 needed for each dependant accompanying you or planning to join you within 12 months of your arrival in the UK. These amounts must be held in your personal bank account for a minimum period of 3 months for which you must show bank statements/other evidence immediately preceding and dated no more than 7 days prior to the date you submit your application. The balance should not fall below the required minimum at any time during the 3 month period.
Use the points based calculator to calculate how many points you have and whether you are eligible to work in the United Kingdom as a highly skilled worker under the points-based system.

2. I went of work permit for 6 months to UK last year and did a fixed deposit of 4000 pounds. Can i show them as maintenance funds(2800 pounds).
3. I am planning to get married in May, but my wife didnt kept in any bank account amount which we can show as maintenance(1600 pounds) as from the above still 400 pounds i need to show. So after I got the visa can i show the same 4000 pounds for my wife visa also.

Hello Dev,
I would like to apply HSMP in the month of May 2010. I have following queries:
1. I am working for a company in India from 9 years and transferred to UAE in sept 2009. Currently working in UAE for the same company(got residence visa in UAE). My last 12 months salaries includes both in India and UAE. For this do i need to give separate letters to show the salary credit?
[1. May 2009 - Aug 2009, India]
[2. Sept 2009 - May 2010, UAE]
2. Regarding the salary slip, do i need to take sign from the employers?
3. For maintance of funds: Would it be okeay if i show the maintenance of funds in UAE bank. For this what would i need? Letter from the bank or E-statement is enough?
4. During the transfer(when getting my residence visa), i told my employeer to hold one month salary(since i didnot have bank account) and asked them to put it in next month salaary. Will there be any issue in that?
5. During first two months of my transfer, i worked from india. Salary credited to Indian bank(My employer deposited the salary from UAE to indian bank with that days conversion rate). Will it cause any problem?
6. Since i am worked for India, do i need to submit income tax details?
I am waiting for your reply.

Hi,
I thought I will share my experience with the new rule (6 April 2010 onwards).
I could not apply earlier as my PG Diploma was not considered a masters. So I waited with my funds and applied on Mid April. I got my Tier 1 VISA in 7 working days. I could not believe it. I am thankful to God for the VISA.
My Details:
Education: Graduation Degree and Marksheet (Originals)
Income Earnings: Current Company Offer Letter, Salary Revision letter, Bonus Payout, e-Payslip stamped and signed by payroll,Bank Statement on bank letterhead showing that the amounts had been credited to my account,
Maintenance: Letter from bank (on bank letterhead) stating that I had maintained 2800 pounds in my account for atleast the last 3 months and that the amount had never gone below that. The letter also stated the current saving balance. I also submitted my Form 16 and IT returns of previous year. (All Originals)
English: Valid IELTS score. Althoughy my Graduation degree and marksheet were in English.
I hope this helps and I wish all applicants all the best in their endeavour. God Bless !
Thanks,
Mickey

Hi
I have been refused for clearance under the requirements of para 245C..
The reason stated is as follows:-
“State Bank of Mysore letter confirms the balance for SB and FD account as Rs5,72,174 from11/3/09 to 19/3/2010. Unable to consider it as an FD because letter does not confiem that the funds can be enchashed at any time. Moreover the amount specified does not mention the amount to be considered for savings. The balance shown is for FD and savings account. Therefore unable to consider this account.”.
pLEASE ADVICE WHAT REPLY I SHOULD MAKE IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW TO GET THE SAME APPROVED.
Hi Devang,
Your blog is awesome and extremely helpful. It’s really great that you are taking time to help people.
Me and my wife would be applying for HSMP in July 2010. Now I would be applying as a dependent, and my wife as primary(as she has a Masters degree). We are both in the same profession. Now my questions are:
1. As a dependant can I seek employment in the UK, equal to how a primary applicant does? and,
2. Would there be any rules/regulations for dependents and their earnings?
3. As a dependent, I would like to ask whether I would need to show any documents (employment details, salary)
4. Also my passport mentions my marital status as “unmarried”, as I was unmarried at the time of making the passport.Do I need to update the marital status, so that her name is mentioned as my spouse (as I’m applying as a dependent)
5. Also our addresses are different on the passport (as we have mentioned our respective home addresses).
6. If a visa is rejected, after what period of time can one reapply.
7. Also after I get the HSMP workpermit in hand, is there any time period between which I MUST travel to UK, before the workpermit lapses?
BTW, are you in the UK at the moment?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dev,
Waht is meant by PBS? Could you please let me know what is the format of the letter we need to produce?
One more clarification: I have lost my marksheets but I have photocopy of originals. What is the proceedure like whether we have to submit originals only or photocopies are sufficient? whether all the marksheets are mandatory or Degree certificates are enough. In my case can I produce Duplicate certificates as I lost the originals. What are the additional proofs required?

Hello Dev,
I am independently preparing the documents to apply for Tier1 (General) visa.
In the Tier 1(General) Migrant Self-assessment I am filling the details in the Earnings table. Here I had some doubts which is as follows:
Although I have worked for the same employer for the past 12 months from May-2009 to April-2010, I had an appraisal in Dec-2009 so due to this my payslips show higher salary from Jan-2010.
I am not sure how to fill this information in the earnings table:
1) Shall I sum up the total salary for 12 months and put in the earnings table – but this can be confusing for the Immigration officer
OR
2) Shall I fill the earnings table with 2 entries – one for salary before appraisal and another for salary after appriasal – this will be simpler to understand for the Immigration officer
Please let me know your views.
Thanks for your consideration.
Warm Regards,
Manoj thorat

Hello All,
The immense information on this page is really helpful.
I had one question, I am married but I want to apply for Tier 1 visa for myself only for now. I plan to apply for my wife’s visa after few months, even though I have sufficient maintenance funds now (GBP 2800 + GBP 1600).
So, will it be fine to apply for a Tier 1 visa for myself, and state in the application form that I will apply for my wife’s dependant visa later?
Warm Regards,
mat.

Hi Dev,
Many many thanks for the wonderful blog.
I wanted to share that I have got my HSW tier-1 visa recently. it took 15 working days to process. I did my paper work and applied on my own.
I am planning to come to UK in July, I am a software engineer with 6+ yrs, specialized in MS Dynamics CRM, MS SharePoint and .Net. I have been watching in UK job sites since last one month and I can see job posting on daily basis for skill set.
Wanted your suggestion on.
1. Is it a good time to move to UK and manage to get a job?
2. Can I try applying for jobs from India online?
3. Your suggestion for job search approach in UK?
All the best to everyone who is applying for HSW.
Regards,
Teja
hey everyone
this is truly a wonderful place to get information on HSMP. I have just one query as rest all of them have been answered here. When one applies for HSMP or tier 1 visa, do they enquire about your current employer? Does VFS or INTEGRA gets back toone’s current employer for verification. If they do so, than it can be tricky to apply for hsmp as my current employer would come to know of it.
i am working as a lecturer in hyderabad and i have an experience of 18 months with a package of 3.5 laks PA. but i have bank statements of only the last six months as i closed the previous account. so what am i supposed to do to show my earnins as i have all the payslips ready but not the bank statements
Hi dev and other readers,
If any one has an idea about the following ,please post it asap, since i am planning to apply for the visa soon.
Are funds in recurring deposits considered as valid ,because these can also be encashed at any time.
PLease resply asap

Hi Dev,
I went through your website, and found really useful information regarding the Tier 1 UK Visa. I am also one of the aspirant. I have certain queries related to Visa, I would be applying on 15th of July 10. I appreciate if you can give me a early response.
1. Salary Proof
My Current CTC is 6 lakhs/annum that includes 5.5 lakh as fixed and 50k is bonus amount.
If I calculate my Annual Gross Income through Payslips, it comes to a total of 5.25 lakh as there are certain deductions like Meal Vouchers, gratuity, super auunuation are not showed in the salary slip. If British High Commission calculates salary using Payslip, I would be loosing 5 points, even though my CTC comes with in the range of 25 points.
I asked my employer also for a letter stating that in monthly gross income, certain components are not visible in payslips. But I got denial from them as they are not authorized to issues any such letters as per the policies.
I would request you all to help in this issue. As 19th July process are getting changed and am applying on 15 of July 10.
If I provide an attested offer letter as a salary proof that gives the salary breakup, will it be sufficient and accepted by Visa personnel.
2. Maintenance Fund
As we require to have 2800 pounds for consecutive 90 days. My 90 days are getting over on 15th of July 2010. And the appointment date is also 15th of July 2010.Will it be ok if I provide Visa personnel the statement of that day, along with a letter from bank. Also Will they accept FD for the maintenance fund?
I request you all again to help me and send the answers as soon as possible. I have just 1 week left to apply.
Many Thanks in advance.

Hi, While filling the application, there is point called ‘When would you wish to Travel to UK’ – Is there any limit in days for this. For example, I am applying on 15 July 2010 and I have mentioned that 1 Dec 2010. Is it ok ? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
